Day 4, Nara and Kyoto

I rose early like the other days and ate 4 onigiris that I bought yesterday. As usual, we were behind schedule for today as well. Today we went to Nara to see the biggest Buddha statue in Todaiji Temple. We arrived at Kintetsu Nara station, which is not a JR station but the closer one to our destination. Nara is known for Buddhism city in the past and still is. So there are many places coloured with Buddhism stuffs.

Out of the station, we visited Lawson because my friends needed some food. I also bought an onigiri even though I devoured 4 this morning. From Lawson, we walked to Nara Park and met with some deer. Unlike what I saw in the YouTube videos where many deer usually seen near the temple vicinity, some deer were actually roaming in the sidewalk. There were many deer snack sellers where the deer would hang around. You can buy the snack for 500 yen and try feeding some deer. Also, be careful when walking and pay attention to the road as you might not want to step on deer poo.

Before we reached Todaiji Temple, we went to Okumura Seismic Museum. It is a small museum where you can experience an earthquake simulation. But there is only one seat for the simulation, so if you come in groups it would take some times to try it. I didn't try it but my friend did. He said, because of the seat has seat belt in it, it wasn't really that scary but without the seat belt you would be thrown here and there.

Soon after, we arrived at Todaiji Temple, there are also many deer here and the poo smell is quite strong. Part of the Todaiji Temple is in renovation. We purchased tickets and got inside from rear door since the baby stroller can only enter through there. Unlike in India(another story that maybe will be added in this blog), the temple doesn't feel like a temple at all. Maybe because there are many tourists visiting this place so that now it is flocked with many souvenir stalls. There is also a Pillar of Ashoka outside of the temple. I don't know if it is just a replica or real thing.

After exploring the temple, we went outside to find something to eat. We found a place where on the 1st floor is a Japanese confectionery shop while the 2nd floor is a cafe, Tenpyoan Cafe. I picked some kind of hot red bean with matcha pudding food served with tea. It was delicious but not a fulfilling meal. Since I had plenty of onigiris in the morning, so I was not reaaly that hungry. The place also served noodle-like food and one rice speciality that my friend didn't try because they have to wait for 30 minutes for one portion.

We then took a bus to JR Nara station(not the one we came before) instead of walking. From JR Nara station we went to Kyoto Station. In the Kyoto Tourism Information Center, I bought 3 one day pass ticket for bus. It cost 500 yen per ticket and it is much cheaper than using Suica card to pay for bus fare if you plan to use many buses. The ticket has blank validity before your first-time use. On your first time use, you must insert it into the machine beside the bus driver when you are getting off. It will print the ticket with a date you are using your ticket on. Next time when you want to get off the bus, you just need to show the ticket with the printed date facing the bus driver.

Afterwards, we went to Kiyomizudera Temple. There is a long walk from the bus stop to the Kiyomizudera Temple and it fills with many shops. From souvenir shops to snacks and food, you named it. We didn't reach the inner part of Kiyomizudera Temple and only spent time just until the ticket counter. Because after a long walk from the bus station, we saw that there is still another long walk to really reach it and it costs money. The other reason is because we wanted to go to Kinkakuji Temple even though I already know that there was a possibility that we couldn't enter as it was already late. But we thought, maybe like Kiyomizudera, we can see it from afar and took photo of it as background.

We strolled down to the bus stop while shopping for snacks. Since the bus stop where we should wait for the bus to Kinkakuji is not the same as for Kiyomizudera, we walked to another bus stop. It was not far, but not very close either. We took the bus and our effort failed miserably as the walk to Kinkakuji temple was closed from far away. So we couldn’t go near the temple much less took a photo. After that, we decided to return and during the way back, we got off near McDonald’s to had dinner. Today too, we arrived home late.

Aku bangun pagi seperti biasa dan makan 4 onigiri yang kubeli kemarin. Seperti biasa, hari ini pun jadwalnya telat. Hari ini kami pergi mengunjungi Nara untuk melihat patung Buddha terbesar di Kuil Todaiji. Kami turun di stasiun Kintetsu-Nara, yang bukan merupakan stasiun JR karena stasiun ini yang terdekat dengan tujuan kami. Nara dikenal dengan kota bernuansa Buddhis dari dulu hingga sekarang. Jadi banyak tempat-tempatnya yang diwarnai dengan hal-hal bernuansa Buddhis.

Di luar stasiun, kami mengunjungi Lawson karena temanku mau makan. Aku juga beli onigiri padahal tadi pagi sudah lahapnya memakan 4 onigiri. Dari Lawson, kami jalan menuju Nara Park dan dalam perjalanan melihat banyak rusa . Tidak seperti yang kulihat di banyak video-video YouTube, beberapa rusa berkeliaran di trotoar. Di mana ada rusa-rusa, biasanya ada penjual cemilan untuk rusa. Harganya 500 yen kalau ingin mencoba memberi makan rusa. Karena banyaknya rusa di jalan, maka saat berjalan harus hati-hati untuk tidak menginjak ranjau kotoran rusa.

Sebelum mencapai Kuil Todaiji, kami masuk ke dalam museum gempa bernama museum Okumura. Museumnya kecil tapi kita dapat mencoba simulasi gempa bumi. Tapi karena kursi untuk simulasi hanya satu, maka kalau datang ramai-ramai harus antri lama. Aku sih tidak coba, tetapi temanku mencobanya. Dia bilang, karena pakai sabuk pengaman jadi dia tidak terlalu takut, cuma dia membayangkan kalau tidak ada sabuk pengaman, mungkin dia sudah terlempar ke sini dan ke sana

Setelahnya, kami sampai di Kuil Todaiji, ada banyak rusa juga di sini sehingga bau ranjaunya cukup menyengat. Sebagian Kuil Todaiji masih dalam renovasi. Kami beli tiket dan masuk melalui pintu belakang karena kalau bawa kereta bayi cuma bisa lewat sana. Tidak seperti di India(cerita lain waktu yang mungkin akan kutambahkan di blog ini), kuil-nya tidal berasa seperti sebagaimana harusnya kuil. Mungkin karena terlalu banyak turis sering datang sehingga tempatnya dipenuhi oleh banyak kios oleh-oleh. Di luar kuil juga terlihat ada Pilar Asoka. Tidak tahu apakah itu hanya replika atau asli.

Setelah mengelilingi kuil, kami keluar untuk makan siang. Kami menemukan tempat yang lantai 1-nya adalah toko manisan Jepang dan lantai 2-nya adalah kafe bernama Tenpyoan Cafe. Aku memesan sejenis bubur kacang merah panas dengan matcha pudding dan teh. Makanannya sih enak tapi tidak mengenyangkan. Tapi karena aku sudah makan banyak onigiri, jadi aku tidak terlalu lapar. Tempatnya juga jualan makanan jenis mie-mie dan ada menu spesial yang temanku tidak coba karena harus tunggu 30 menit per porsi-nya.

Lalu, daripada jalan, kami pilih untuk naik bus ke stasiun JR Nara(bukan stasiun yang kami pakai pas pagi). Dari stasiun JR Nara, kami menuju stasiun Kyoto. Di Pusat Informasi Turis Kyoto, Aku beli 3 tiket bus untuk 1 hari. Harganya per tiket 500 yen dan lebih murah membeli tiket bus 1 hari itu kalau banyak bepergian dengan bus. Tiket-nya tidak ada tanggal berlaku kalau belum dipakai. Pada saat pertama kali pakai, ketika mau turun dari bus harus masukkan tiket-nya ke mesin di samping supir bus. Mesinnya lalu akan mencetak tanggal di mana tiket itu dipakai. Untuk pemakaiann selanjutnya, cukup menunjukkan tiket bagian yang ada tanggalnya ke supir bus.

Dengan bus, kita lalu sampai di Kuil Kiyomizudera. Dari halte bis ke Kuil Kiyomizudera ada jalan cukup panjang dan dipenuhi oleh banyak toko. Ada toko suvenir hingga makanan. Kami tidak masuk ke dalam Kuil Kiyomizudera dan cuma menyempatkan diri sampai di konter tiket saja. Karena setelah jalan jauh, kami melihat masih ada jalan yang harus ditempuh untuk benar-benar sampai ke dalam dan lagi harus beli tiket. Alasan lainnya adalah karena kami mau mencoba ke Kuil Kinkakuji walaupun aku tahu ada kemungkinan kita tidak bisa masuk karena sudah bukan waktunya. Tapi kami berpikir, mungkin seperti Kiyomizudera, kami bisa ambil foto dari jauh.

Kami lalu turun kembali ke halte bus sambil jajan. Karena halte bis untuk ke Kinkakuji tidak sama dengan yang Kiyomizudera, jadi kami harus jalan ke halte bus lain. Jalannya sih tidak jauh, tapi tidak dekat juga. Dari situ kami naik bus dan ternyata usaha kami percuma karena jalan menuju Kuil Kinkakuji sudah tutup dari kejauhan. Jadi kami tidak bisa foto-foto dari kejauhan. Setelahnya, kami putuskan untuk pulang dan mampir di Mc Donald untuk makan malam. Hari ini pun, kami sampai rumah telat.
